Read this page and learn how to install your Car or Truck mirror glass only product

Its always such a hassle when you break your side view mirror. I myself have hit many a mailbox in my day that cracked the car mirror or the mirror assembly. Lots of people think they have to go to the  dealership to get the whole assembly. In some cases you have to, but most of the time its just the glass itself that is broken. Why spend $550.00 dollars and up to have it replace the assembly by the dealer or a  when you can fix it yourself easily and affordably.

Did you ever notice the  passenger side mirror always has the "objects are closer" text on the mirror. This mirror is designed this way to increase your field of vision and to eliminate the blind spot problem. Its always a good thing to replace that with a convex mirror glass verses a normal mirror. Don't substitute this as one day it might save your life.

A glass only side view mirror is made of Made in USA, 2.2mm 1st surface chromium mirror properties. This mirror is actually translucent. Meaning that light will travel through and absorb the light from the car behind you at night. USA Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Code 571.111 require this mirror to absorb 40 to 60 percent of light and convex mirror with a bend of a 40 inch radius. However during the day during, the mirror is 100% reflective. We only sell mirrors that conform with DOT standards. Our mirrors are made in the USA, and all comply to US Standards. American First Surface chromium has its mirror properties sprayed on the outside of the glass but appears to be on both sides of the glass. Other more lower quality mirror is sprayed on both sides of the mirror and decreases the absorption of light. US mirror absorbs 40% of the light where as Asian product absorbs only 15 or 20 at best. The reason for this is to cut the glare and reflective properties so that late at night and the car in the other lane is blazing the lights in your eyes is not as blinding. So beware of the 9-16 dollar mirror that you are seeing on sale these days on the internet, as these mirrors might not conform to USA standards in absorption and are made of dual surface aluminum or zinc oxide. Car or Truck mirrors are made of 2 parts. The car mirror glass glued to a plastic frame plate that snaps to manual or motor housing. Without this plastic frame the glass has nothing to rest into the car mirror housing. We only sell the glass that is glued to this plastic frame. We do not suggest the use of normal bathroom silicone adhesive, which everyone has laying around at somewhere in their house or apartment. Latex type silicone does not adhere well to glass, but does to the plastic frame. We suggested using a construction silicone which is non latex based.  If you don't have any then get a small tube at your local hardware store, or order the tube online with us.

How to remove and replace your car mirror from the frame

Now how do you remove that old  mirror to get the new one in. Well, you first must breakdown the mirror from the frame. One simple way to do this is to get a flat strong instrument like a wide screw driver, putty knife or scraper.  Not many of you have the scraper, but when you go to our order form page we could sell you one. Its a nice thing to have around your toolbox. Now to loosen the adhesive from the plate you must apply some heat. Ideally a propane torch is good, but if you have the wife's hairdryer or a heat gun that will also work. Heat up the mirror enough so that the adhesive behind the  mirror loosens from it bond to the frame. This will make it easier to remove the broken glass using the putty knife, or the scraper under the mirror and pull all the broken pieces off the frame. Make sure you are wearing gloves and protective eyewear, oh, and its also a smart idea to put a small garbage bucket under the housing you are working on, so that the glass falls into the bucket and not on the ground. After the side view mirror glass is removed, make sure all the mirror and adhesive is clean off the framed plate.

Once you have removed your  side view mirror from the frame, you now need to apply the glue to the black frame. First thing to do is clean the frame with a non ammonia based cleaner so read you widow cleaner. Apply the glue outward so it extends past the lip of the frame. I call this the snow cone effect. Glue it in 5 spots. One in the middle and 4 corners 1 inch from the frame edge so it will not ooze out of the frame, making a mess. If by chance this does happen do not try to clean the silicone off and let it dry as it is very difficult to clean off when smeared on any glass surface. If you order the silicone from us or have purchased a tube, cut a 3/8 inch diameter from the tip. Use Large dabs of the adhesive 3/8" inch wide by 1/2" outwards. Remember you are not installing a windshield that requires a strong adhesive although a non latex silicone has a psi of 195. Once you have adhered the  mirror to the frame, get some easily removable tape, like masking tape or blue painters tape. Tape the mirror around the mirror housing so that the mirror will not slide off the frame. The drying time is normally 4 hours at 65 degrees and a little longer at 32 degrees. So we suggest you keep the tape on for 24 hours for cold climates and 4 hours in warmer area until the glue dries.

How To Try and Save your Heating element

Many of you have heating elements behind the mirror. Some heated mirrors will have a heating element mark on the mirror. However to make sure you have a heating element, move the frame as much as you can to the side, and look behind the frame. You will notice wires going into the frame. This is a good indication you have a heated mirror. Best way to remove the heating element from the car mirror is to use a household hairdryer. This will not make your mirror not hot enough to melt the heating element. Then take a square utility razor, start at the corner, and slowly peal the element off the mirror being you are breaking down a rubber based spray adhesive. TAKE YOUR TIME removing the broken mirror from the heating element. Then reapply the element to the new mirrors using the silicone we sell  around the edge of the heating element onto the mirror, let it dry 24 hours. We also received an email from another customer that removed the element by brushing paint thinner over the heating element, letting it soak in for about 15 minutes, then pealing it off the mirror glass. However using the paint thinner can melt the plastic element. So brush it and keep it to the 15 minute limit as not to do damage to the element.   We have yet to try this, but nobody has yet to complain about this method.

Installing a Electro chromatic Self Dimming Fit Over Car mirror

Self-Dimming Mirrors: A Revolutionary Design for Your Vehicle Back in the early 90's, a revolutionary design known as the self-dimming mirror was introduced in high-end vehicles. Today, this innovative feature is becoming a standard in newer models. The self-dimming mirror is made up of two pieces of glass with an electro-chromatic liquid that is voltage charged. When light hits a sensor, the mirror darkens, reducing the blinding effect of the vehicle behind you. The lifespan of these self-dimming mirrors is typically around 8 to 12 years. However, after this period, you may start to notice issues such as the mirror turning black, rusting, or becoming distorted. If you were to purchase a replacement mirror through the dealer, it could cost you between $400 to $500, provided it is still in production. It's important to note that there are no aftermarket replacements available for these mirrors, so be cautious if you come across any online claims suggesting otherwise. At our company, we have developed a solution for those in need of a self-dimming mirror replacement. Our mirrors are made of First Surface Chromium, which absorbs 40 percent of the light. In comparison, the original dimming feature absorbed between 60 to 74 percent of the light. It's worth mentioning that mirrors being sold online, particularly those not made in the USA, may be of low quality and made from Aluminum Oxide, which only absorbs around 15 percent of the light. Some sellers may offer the whole mirror housing as a replacement, but it's important to note that these mirrors have the same life expectancy as the one currently on your vehicle. Our solution is a self-dimming fit-over mirror that perfectly fits between the frame lip. This allows for a seamless replacement without the need to remove the old glass. When replacing the self-dimming mirror, it is crucial not to remove the old glass. If you have a cracked or broken mirror and notice the liquid leaking out, we recommend taking it to a car wash and using the power spray wand they offer. By blasting the frame, you can remove the liquid, ensuring a proper bond when using silicone glue. To install the replacement mirror properly, you need to dot the failed mirror with silicone. Create a pattern of 1/4 inch dots, spaced 1/4 inch apart, and positioned 1/2 inch from the frame edge. This dotted pattern will resemble the measles. By doing so, when you apply the new mirror between the inner frame lip, you create a silicone pad. The dots will connect, forming a self-made pad that helps transfer heat evenly throughout the mirror. It's important to note that using the circle pads provided by many companies for installation is not recommended. If you do, you may notice circles on your new mirror, as those areas will be the only ones capable of melting ice, snow, or fog. For any further information or assistance with the installation, please don't hesitate to contact us. You'll be pleasantly surprised to find that you won't be calling the Philippines. Our dedicated support team is ready to assist you.

Gluing a mirror that has fallen out of the frame for no reason.

In the last 6 or 7 years, we have been selling a lot of mirrors that the glass has fallen out of the frame for no reason. One of the biggest problems cars has been the Saab 93 95, Volvo S V and XC series, Volkswagen Passat and Jetta to name a few. There are another 20 or 30 makes and models that has had this problem in recent years. There are several factors causing this to happen. To find out more, ask our customer service reps while you have them on the phone. Most important, there is a special way to re glue this mirror to the frame attachment properly to make it bond, and if you have a heating element, it is an effective way for the heat from the element to transfer to the glass. For some reason, the manufacture of these products either used a small amount of double sided tape, used hot acrylic bonding to name a few.The main culprit with mirrors with heating elements we're the use of spray adhesive onto a black pad. Behind this black pad is a heating element. If you have this situation, please refer to the installation of Installing a Electro chromatic self dimming mirror installation. It is the same principle. By dotting the glue, as explained above, your mirrors heating function will work much better than just globing the glue onto the frame. It will disperse the heat from the element that is behind the black pad. The silicone that we sell is perfect in adhering this mirror properly. I have enclosed a picture of a mirror that the glass fell out of the frame, that had the black pad, and the heating element is behind the black pad. Again. Do not remove this black pad. Glue the black pad as explained. To see this mirror CLICK HERE
